SUPER ADOBE

To an ant a toothpick is unbreakable. To a human a tree is unbreakable. To an earthquake, a tree is a toothpick. It’s simply a mater of scale. There is no human made structure strong enough to withstand the forces of an earthquake unless it’s designed to move with the earth itself. In our attempts to rebuild a post earthquake Nepal we must not let slip the primary lesson learned: rigidity is not strength, in an earthquake flexibility is.M. A. Cocchini, Founder of Hope & Homes

INTRODUCTION

MEDIA & CONTENT

The bond beam is a standard concrete mix. We recommend 8″ wide by 8″ tall. Make sure the metal rebar is sticking through the last course to impregnate the beam and tie everything together. Make sure the steel is long enough to stick through the top of the beam as well to weld or wire wrap the roof trusses to.

Make a wooden mold and pour it full of concrete. The galvanized mesh should be hung over the top of the wall before placing the wooden molds, but you can pour the beam before finishing. It’s gonna take like 30 days to cure so it’s best to work around that curing time.

Our 3D CAD models are Open Source and were built with love in SketchUp rather than AutoCAD, so that you can download them for free. By all means, play around, if you break it too bad just come download a fresh copy from our sight. Add on and improve the models and send them back to us. It’s it’s good will even update our site with the improved models. The artwork in the models were created using layers so you can turn on and off any parts of the models you want.
